Baalijin House

Bellingen 2013

Nestled into a green urban hillside, Baalijin House has been inscribed with the indigenous name of the town of Bellingen, NSW, in which it is situated. The modest home was designed and built by Fisher Design + Architecture as owner builder. With a focus on affordability, sustainability, and appropriateness for the site, the house utilises a palette of ‘home made’ pressed earth bricks and locally sourced timbers. Reflecting the spirit of Bellingen, Baalijin House demonstrates how a creative approach can achieve an affordable home which is individual and organic with a low environmental impact, while being contemporary and respectful of the site and the town’s cultural/ historical context.
