Heather Street Housing

Port Macquarie 2013

Heather Street Housing is a Housing NSW project designed for older people and those with disabilities. Meeting the needs of a changing population, this contemporary housing sits appropriately in its Port Macquarie setting, providing its residents with a high quality living environment which has a sense of independence, comfort, security and delight.

Consisting of seven single & two-bedroom dwellings, on-site car parking, utilities area, and an internal landscaped communal area, the site layout and unit plans have been designed to provide independent unit entries, and maximise natural ventilation and solar access to unit living areas, private courtyards, and communal spaces.

Designed to offer practical and flexible accommodation to meet the changing needs of residents of different ages and disabilities over time, all ground floor units are ‘adaptable’, meeting performance requirements of AS 4299 and AS1428.1.The units have been fitted out with standard fixtures and fittings, and provisions for future adaption to fully accessible disabled occupation.

A central corridor provides disabled ramped access from Heather Street to the rear units, and connects all units to the central communal garden and BBQ area, which is intended to provide a place for rest, contemplation, and social interaction.
