Fisher Design + Architecture is a multiple award-winning regional architectural practice based in Bellingen, NSW, specialising in architecture, placemaking, and interpretive design.
With over two decades of experience, partners Christian and Anna Fisher combine their expertise to offer a specialised professional service, for public, commercial and residential architecture, placemaking and urban design, concept master planning, community consultation, interpretive design and public art installation, and signage strategy.
We collaborate with clients, consultants, and the community to provide innovative, sustainable and appropriate design solutions for large and small scale regional architectural and urban projects.
Our clients include home owners, developers and builders, local and state government bodies, and the arts and tourism industries, along the NSW north coast, from Byron Bay, to Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie and Great Lakes.
With a client focused approach, we tailor services to meet the needs of each project, aiming to deliver unique, and project specific outcomes which address client needs, and respond to site and context.
We provide a direct and local professional service, and remain connected to the wider design and architecture community, allowing for the capability and resourcing of a large metropolitan firm, with the personal service of a small, regional practice.
Being regionally based we are accessible, and placed to have an understanding of the local community and context, necessary for the development of ideas, design solutions and strategies for regional projects.
Fisher Design + Architecture have received multiple industry design excellence awards at both regional and state levels, for public architecture, urban design, and interpretive design projects.
Revitalisation
The built realm is constantly changing and evolving, building and growing- weathering and degrading. We look for opportunities to reinvigorate public space, and restore and preserve the natural and built landscape to provide safer, healthier environments and public assets that people want to be in, look after and protect, and preserve for future generations.
User Experience
We aim to enhance the user experience through providing a deeper understanding of the site, and creating meaningful environments which encourage positive emotional responses, behaviour and choices.
Journey
We aim to create a sense of journey through the site, and providing engaging and memorable experiences and moments.
Connections
We aim to enrich the user experience through making meaningful connections between people and place.
Creative Placemaking + Storytelling
Revitalisation of public space around arts and culture, reflecting the natural, cultural and historical meanings of the site, creates inspiring environments which encourage pride and respect.
Every place has a story to tell, and it is the exchange of stories through Interpretative design and artwork which connects people with our culture, and helps build our sense of community.
The story of a place starts with listening – to the client and to the community. Engaging the community enables understanding of the existing setting, an informed vision which reflects its creative spirit and values, and encourages custodianship and responsibility.
We develop a deep understanding of the brief, the site, and context, through meetings, site analysis, community consultation, and research.
With a pragmatic and creative design approach, we provide strategic thinking to address project constraints and opportunities, and formalisation of the brief and budget.
We collaborate with and facilitate creative input from the client, stakeholders, the community, the consultant team, local artists, and contractors.
We provide design strategies and solutions which aim to meet the pragmatic and landscape specific needs of each project relating to safe usage, environmental impact, and sustainability.
We aim to connect people with place through communicating natural, historical and cultural meanings of the site, through integration of landscape, interpretive design and built form.
Our role on public projects has been both as an open, positive and critical sounding board and a facilitator negotiating through design, community and client approvals, documentation and constructional complexities.
We provide 3D computer modelling and illustrations to effectively present the design concepts to the client and community.
Detailed drawings and documents enable a comprehensive description of the designs for pricing and building. We offer services through to project completion where required to assist with the control of time, cost and quality during construction.
FD+A provide a direct and local professional service, and remain connected to the wider design and architecture community, allowing for the capability and resourcing of a large metropolitan firm, with the personal service of a small, regional practice.
Where required to meet specific project technical and personnel needs, FD+A assemble a team of specialist consultants, which is regionally based, accessible, and placed to have an understanding of the local community and context.
